The bar and restaurant are closed. Other things are happening…Thank you all for a wonderful 6 years. Special thanks go to Dean, Pedro, Roger, Suz, Sean and to the two best employees in the world, Alex & Sheyla.
– Rick & Sarah
As is probably quite well known by now, Mordidas is closing its doors.
Sarah and I are too old to continue and I have not found anyone who wants to buy it or to take over its operation.
It has been a very good 6 year run and there is quite a mix of sadness, relief and uncertainty involved. Mordidas has been my whole focus for a very long time.
Mordidas was run more as a two bit, small town burlesque show than as a “real” restaurant, valuing characters and scenes over the rote production of food and drink. Sheyla and Alex, who have both been with me for years, through many ups and downs, are the superstars. Sarah is the diva.
There was no “behind the scenes” or “rehearsals.” It was all “live” and spontaneous. I gave free rein to the “cast.”
As for our future, I am stepping back into a previous role of botanist and continuing my work with “rare & strange plants” by reopening the nursery that made Vallarta and Mordidas possible for me, Theatrum Botanicum. The nursery currently lives on the roof-tops of Mordidas and in the website www.xplanta.com. I will continue my previous roles of growing, selling and teaching about “rare & strange” plants. You would have to ask Sarah, Sheyla and Alex what their plans are. They are not for me to say.
As for the immediate future:
