This class was held in 2014 and we are not having it this year. Sorry.
Love tamales? Would you like to learn how to easily make them? Would you like to participate in an interactive class making them in a bar? They’ve been around for 5-8000 years and all of us here in Mexico should already know how to make them, but do we, really?
Mordidas is offering a Drunken Hot Tamales Making Class, one of our series of Drunken – – – Classes, classes designed to ease the cultural transition of gringos into Mexico or, if you are a Mexucab, to ease the cultural transition of gringos moving into the ‘hood.
Wednesday, December 17, at noon.
You will learn how to make masa, how to create a flavorful and light tamal dough, how to prepare ‘normal’ and exotic fillings, how to “roll” tamales, how to steam tamales (plus how to use a modern shortcut for steaming) and, finally, how to serve and eat tamales.
We will make pork, chicken, hot and sweet tamales.
At the end of the class, there will be a free-for-all sampling of the day’s creations.
During the class coffee, beer, wine and cocktails will be available for purchase at the Mordidas very modest prices.
The class is taught by Rick Hepting, a gringo who was raised on tamales from the age of 5, first by his neighbors and second by his business partner for 10 years.
The class is approximately 2 hours long and enrollment is limited. A recipe and resource handout and a selection of tamales will be given to each class member. All materials are provided. Just show up wearing clothes that can get dirty.
120 pesos per person.
